Noted six-string masters from across the country and around the world are arriving in the Bluff City for this weekend’s Memphis International Guitar Festival.

The sixth edition of the event — which takes place at the University of Memphis' Harris Concert Hall — is led by artistic director and guitarist Lily Afshar, a longtime Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music faculty member. The festival includes a mix of concerts, master classes and a guitar competition, taking place over the next three days.

Afshar will inaugurate the festival tonight with a 7:30 concert that also will feature a performance from North Carolina virtuoso Elliot Frank.

Georgia-based Luther Enloe will perform a Saturday morning set at the Harris Concert Hall starting at 11. Nicaraguan guitarist Isaac Bustos will headline a concert later that evening at the venue at 7.

The concerts will conclude Sunday at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by Spanish flamenco player Virginia Luque.

The event is free for all University of Memphis faculty, staff and students with ID. Tickets for the general public are $20 per show and will be available at the door.
